The Portarlington Film Society — operating under the umbrella of the Portarlington Neighbourhood House — was established in 2012. It was hoped to attract 40 members to achieve a viable operation. In just two days we had a full quota of 80 members and a waiting list of over 20 applicants. The membership was extended to 100 members in 2013 but there is still a waiting list.
The aim was to screen quality and art house films that were often not available in the local area and members have been actively involved in the selection of films.
Films are screened digitally and are supported by a high quality 7.1 surround sound system which has been progressively extended over recent years.
DVDs are owned by the Society and are available for loan, once the film has been screened.
